Set in the seventh millennium, A.D. the human Colonial
forces have agreed to peace with their mortal enemies
the Robotic Cylons when a surprise attack destroys
most of the Colonial Fleet, and almost all humankind
with it. The Cylons were aided in their efforts
by the treacherous Count Baltar

Galactica, the only surviving battlestar, under the
leadership of Commander Adama, gathers up the
remnants of the Colonials and forms a "ragtag group
of ships." They decide to go off in search of a planet
founded by a missing tribe of the Colonials. Now the
Cylons pursue Galactica and her fugitive fleet of
220 smaller spacecraft as they poke through
space toward a last refuge, a distant,
unknown planet called Earth.

The series left the air after only one season,
then returned in early 1980 retitled Galactica 1980.
Thirty years after the events of the series
"Battlestar Galactica," the fugitive star fleet
finally reaches its legendary destination. But
Commander Adama discovers that the Planet Earth
in 1980 is not technologically advanced enough
to help them battle the Cylons. Indeed, by
coming to Earth, the Galactica has inadvertently
exposed the helpless planet to attack by the
android race bent on exterminating all humanity.
