In this offbeat series, three sisters were reunited in
the big old Victorian family home in San Francisco, only
to discover something their mother had never told them:
they were all witches, each with unique powers. Because
they hadn't know about the powers, they had been protected
from evil, but now that they knew about and could use
their powers, they were targets. Each week they fought
the good fight against evil. It all started when Phoebe
invoked an incantation that activated their powers. She
could see into the future, Pru could move objects at
will (telekinesis), and Piper could stop time.
As protectors of the innocent, they were known as the
charmed ones. Collectively the used incantations from
the Book of Shadows, a book of witchcraft, to cast
spells. Holding hands and chanting, "The Power of Three
Will Set Us Free," they destroyed an evil warlock in the
premiere. They could use incantations to fight demons,
warlocks, and other spirits, but had to be together as
a team for the incantations to work. Pru worked for the
Buckland Auction House, Piper was a student chef at
The Quake restaurant and catered on the side,
and Phoebe bounced from job to job.
