USA's original drama series is about two cops with a problem, each other.

Despite their differences, they are incredible detectives.
When things come to a head during their "seven-year itch" as partners,
their captain forces them into couples' therapy to save their "work marriage"
and the one thing they both love, law enforcement.

Travis Marks and Wes Mitchell are two partners who, apart from their polarity and
odd couple behavior, have a seven-year track record as the Los Angeles Police Department's
best detectives in the Robbery-Homicide Division. Since their constant bickering is
interfering with work, their new-age captain, who found counseling changed his life,
sends them to couples' therapy. Dr. Ryan, a tough-as-nails therapist, tries to help
them understand and resolve their conflicts and confront their demons
in order to enhance their ability to work together solving crimes.

As Dr. Ryan explores their relationship we find out these two are birds of a feather
professionally, and their personal differences actually balance them out.

Wes is a former lawyer whose sensitivity to an event in his life sparked his desire to
become a cop and who sacrificed his marriage to do so. He sees things in black and white,
is responsible, compulsively organized, methodical and often over thinks decisions.

Travis is a former juvenile delinquent and maverick ladies man who was has a fear of
abandonment, commitment and intimacy. While he's an open book and deeply trusts his gut
instincts, he's carefree, irresponsible, disorganized and doesn't play by the rules.

We soon learn that a successful relationship or partnership doesn't mean
you have to like the same things; you just have to hate the same things
and sometimes that makes for a stronger union.

Don't let his laidback demeanor fool you. Although Travis Marks can seem nonchalant about,
well, everything, his fierce intelligence, natural instincts and maverick style have made
him one of the best detectives on the force. A freewheeling yin to Wes's meticulous yang,
Travis can see solutions that the rule-bound Wes can't, and his ease with both colleagues
and witnesses alike goes a long way toward smoothing over his partner's more prickly personality.
A product of street living and the foster system, Travis has gained the uncanny ability
to read people. It's a skill that he's used time and again to bust the bad guys,
and to make sure that he's always got a date. However, this ladies man's habit of treating
the precinct like his own personal singles bar, as well as his seeming inability to apologize
for his mistakes, can often make his, and his partner's, job more difficult. Priding himself
on being the more open-minded of the team, Travis readily embraced the idea of couples counseling.
But with his well-known commitment problems,
it may be Travis who has a hard time sticking with the process.

Intelligent, observant and methodical, ok, obsessive, Wes Mitchell's personality makes him a
natural detective. It's also made him one of the most disliked members of the LAPD, especially
by those other cops who don't measure up to his exacting standards. Formerly an ace lawyer,
Wes left the bar for the badge after one of his cases affected him personally and made him
to want to give back. Now, when he's not driving people crazy with his perfectionist streak,
Wes is trying to keep his free-spirited partner in line and using his legal acumen and affinity
for facts to track down crooks. It's a win for the department, but it complicated things with his
former wife, Alex, who spent too much time wondering if her husband would live through the night.
With his tendency to keep his emotions bottled up until they explode, Wes is resistant to the
idea of couples counseling. However, with he and Alex's complex relationship, as well as the
unresolved guilt he bears over his client's suicide,
it's clear that Wes has his fair share of issues to work out.

Captain Mike Sutton used to be the fire-breathing dragon of the LAPD homicide division,
but years of therapy have made him a more understanding, open leader, much to the chagrin of
anyone who's around when he feels like sharing. When Travis and Wes landed on probation,
it was Captain Sutton who ordered them to attend couples counseling. A true believer in the
therapy process, the Captain is there to cheer Travis and Wes on through the counseling and
to get their back when they run afoul of the LAPD brass. But just because he's found his
sensitive side doesn't mean he can't still bring the heat if he has to.
It's just that now, the heat comes with hugs.

Dr. Emma Ryan graduated at the top of her class with a firm belief in what good psychiatry can do.
But years of popping out prescriptions for her wealthy Beverly Hills clients had her feeling like
a glorified pill dispenser. Hoping to roll up her sleeves and do some real good, Dr. Ryan soon
began offering low-cost group therapy at the local community center. It was Dr. Ryan's work with
Captain Sutton that eventually brought Wes and Travis in to her couples counseling group.
And while it's clear to her from the very beginning that the detectives are going to be
tough patients, Dr. Ryan isn't one to back down from a challenge.
