Set in the small fictitious coastal community of
Santa Luisa, California. The investigations of Detective
Lieutenant Dan August, a man caught between the
hatreds of the Establishment and his duty to protect.
Since August had grown up with many of the people he
had to deal with, he became more personally involved
in his cases than would most big-city detectives.
Despite --or perhaps because of-- this, he always
got his man, in true TV-detective fashion.
The series was aired on ABC during the 1970-1971
seaon to metiocre ratings and was not renewed. However,
shortly thereafter Reynolds became a major celebrity,
and CBS telecast reruns during the summers of 1973 and
1975 to larger audiences than had seen the original telecasts.
