One year after being named by his fellow comedians as
"the greatest visual comedian of our day," and more than
forty years after he began his career in vaudeville, Ed
Wynn began his own weekly variety show on television.
Although the show had guest stars, its main focus was Ed
himself, in his giggling "Perfect Fool" characterization
and in other roles he created over the years.
THE ED WYNN SHOW September 25, 1958 - January 1, 1959
NBC Situation Comedy
Ed Wynn came out of semi-retirement to make one final
try at a regular series on television, and this short-
lived sitcom was the result. As John Beamer, he was an
elderly widower whose children had also died, leaving
him with the responsibility of raising his granddaughters.
