Two contestants answered questions from categories determined
by a machine resembling a one-armed bandit that selected
categories randomly. The machine projected three cards on a
screen. A player then selected a category and the question
asked was worth $50. A joker card on the board doubled the
value of the question, a pair of jokers increased it to $200,
and three jokers were worth an automatic win. The first
person to earn $500 won the game. The winning contestant
played a bonus game using the same machine, though it was
now filled with cash and "devil" cards. The player stopped
the spinning cards at will and, as long as cash amounts
appeared in the three windows, he or she kept the
accumulated money and could elect to continue spinning.
The player who accumulated $1000 or more without a devil
appearing won a bonus prize. The devil's appearance would
cause the player to lose any acumulated winnings in that
round, but the player had the option of quitting anytime.
The series also ran in syndication 1977-1986 with hosts
Jack Barry, Jim Peck, and Bill Cullen. Another syndicated
version ran 1990-1991 with host Pat Finn.
