Two teams, each composed of a celebrity guest and a
contestant, competed in a game to guess words from
one-word clues. One member of each team was given the
"password" and tried to get his partner to say the
word using a one-word clue. If he or she could not,
the opposing team received a chance to try. The point
value started at ten and decreased by one until the
word was guessed. The first team to score twenty five
points won the game and played the "Lightning Round,"
where one player tried to convey five words to his or
her partner in one minute at $50 per word.

This version of the show was also seen in primetime
on CBS, January 2, 1962 - September 9, 1965 and
December 25, 1966 - May 22, 1967.

partner to say the word in fifteen seconds
thereby doubling their bet.

Each "password" in this new version was a clue to
the password puzzle (the name of a person, place,
or thing) and the first person to correctly guess
the puzzle won the round. The first two puzzles
played were worth $100 each and others after that
were worth $200. The first team to collect $300
won the match and an opportunity to play "Alpha-
betics," where one player tried to communicate ten
words in sixty seconds to his or her partner using
one-word clues for $100 a word or a jackpot
of $5000 for all ten.

Bill Cullen filled in for the ill Allen Ludden in the spring
of 1980. On October 27, 1980, Tom Kennedy became
the new host. Allen Ludden passed away on June 9, 1981.

Two teams, each composed of a celebrity guest and a studio
contestant, competed. One member of each team received the
password and in turn tried to get his or her partner to
say the word by using a one-word clue. The player who
correctly guessed the word was given a chance to guess the
mystery word or subject, of which each of the five passwords
provided clues. The player that solved the puzzle earned
$100, $200 in the second game, and so on. The first team
to accumulate $500 moved on to the Super Password round,
where one player tried to convey ten words to his or her
partner using one-word clues in sixty seconds for $100
a word or $5,000 for all ten.
